Diesel, an Italian clothing brand that is perhaps best known for its jeans and denim-based fashion offerings, has collaborated with the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation to lay the groundwork for the launch of as many as 28,000 pairs of jeans that will be crafted using at least 20 percent recycled fibers.
These upcycled jeans will make use of recycled fibers sourced from Diesel’s own supply chain in the North African country of Tunisia, with over 7,500 kg of textile waste collected from Diesel’s manufacturing facilities in Tunisia. Some 46,000 meters of recycled cloth were generated, which are being utilized to create 28,000 pairs of the newly upcycled jeans.
Set to be launched in the fall, these upcycled jeans are a fantastic example of how fashion houses can go about re-using the waste materials generated in their own supply chains in order to promote responsible manufacturing.
