Some of the transformative technology invented right here in Leicestershire

[ad_1]

Changing the landscape of our everyday, there are innovators across our region who are using their skills and talents to provide products and services that better our lives.

Not an easy feat, this brilliance deserves recognition and so the LeicestershireLive Innovation Awards is putting on an exciting event to do just that.

Held on Tuesday, September 14, at the National Space Centre in Leicester, the event will bring together some of our region’s top pioneers. The event’s headline sponsors are De Montfort University, Morningside Pharmaceuticals and University of Leicester; and the associate sponsor is LLEP Business Gateway.

The Innovation in Technology award, sponsored by De Montfort University, highlights the very best tech ideas that have come out of the greatest minds that Leicestershire has to offer. These transformative ideas, over the coming years, will help shape the world in which we work, live and play. This category aims to celebrate the pioneers of new technology that throw out the old and bring in the new with extraordinary results in their sector.

The finalists are:

BeoBia

BeoBia invented the world’s first truly sustainable insect growing food pod for users’ homes. Its affordable product provides a continuous, free and sustainable protein production from edible insects, one which uses a series of interlocking trays to recycle customers’ uneaten fruit and veg. Created in a bid to reduce people’s carbon footprints, BeoBia aims to become the leading global retailer of affordable and sustainable home-grown insect protein.

Tzuka Ltd

Tzuka has developed what it says are the world’s most durable sports earbuds. They are in line to be the first earbuds in the world with an impact resistance certification as well as being totally waterproof and shockproof.

Its unique assembly process is different from industry leaders as the buds are sealed internally, providing a waterproof seal that cannot be damaged with wear and tear, and one that passes military grade shockproof tests. Moreover, the earbuds have built-in storage, allowing users to upload 4gb of music or podcasts directly to them.

De Montfort University

De Montfort University is a resource for the business community, bringing academics, graduates and industry together to support innovation, growth and skills development, focusing on improving digital competence. Its flagship Impacting Business By Design provides funded design support for SMEs to bring new products to market. It has the eighth highest number of start-ups of any UK university.

University of Leicester

University of Leicester delivers inspirational teaching and world-changing research and innovation. It supports innovators and businesses through a range of industry collaborations including the £5.1m Leicester Innovation Hub, making it easy to hire talented graduates and utilise the university’s expertise and facilities. Space Park Leicester is the university’s flagship project to grow the Leicestershire space innovation cluster.

Morningside Pharmaceuticals

Morningside Pharmaceuticals is an award-winning innovator, manufacturer and supplier of high-quality generic medicines and healthcare products to the UK and internationally. It is proud to deliver twice daily to the NHS and be one of the UK’s leading medical suppliers to aid organisations, having exported to more than 120 countries since its inception in 1991.

Vehicle Vision

Vehicle Vision’s Assist is a video platform for the automotive industry. The new platform allows customers to send high quality video footage of their vehicle to dealerships where problems can be diagnosed, quotes for repairs can be given and exchange valuations can be made, without the need to be there in person.

The easy-to-use technology doesn’t have to be downloaded to use and users won’t need training to understand it. It increases productivity in dealerships, benefiting both customers and dealers.
