It is good that many food ordering apps are recognizing the need to establish gig worker safety features to protect their workforce. After all, an increase in demand also inevitably means an increase in violent acts and theft. GrubHub is the latest company to establish a more robust gig worker safety protocol by partnering with the third-party service known as RapidSOS.
The safety feature is designed to work seamlessly. When a gig worker calls 911 through the Grubhub for Drivers app, RapidSOS will register the action and proactively “share information like dynamic location and caller ID directly to the nearest emergency responders.” The partnership also enables workers to call or text a safety agent if they are feeling unsafe. If the situation escalates, the safety agent will share location information with emergency responders.
