Instagram has confirmed it will test a new feature that lets artists send messages to all of their followers. Creators will be able to share text, video, voice notes, or photo updates with followers via broadcast channels, who will then be able to respond depending on the channel’s settings. When a message is sent, followers are prompted to join the creator’s channel. If they accept, they will then get alerts whenever there are new posts.
A channel will appear alongside other message threads after it has been added to their inbox. Instagram has plans to add new features for Broadcast Channels in the near future. With a few American creators testing the feature, the mobile-only functionality will be evaluated before being expanded to accommodate more accounts.
